On December 15th, the second meeting of the first Academic Committee and Expert Consultation Committee of the National Key Laboratory for Precision Manufacturing of Extreme Service Performance was successfully held in Changsha City. Members of the Academic Committee, i.e., Academicians Lin Zhongqin, Yang Huayong, Yang Mengfei, and Wang Guoqing, and members of the Expert Consultation Committee, i.e., Academicians Xiong Youlun, Guo Dongming, Zhai Wanming, Huang Qingxue, and Jiang Lan, as well as specially invited experts and Academicians, Li Peigen and Zhu Weichou, and over 40 other experts attended the meeting. Academician Chai Liyuan, standing vice president of Central South University; Academician Zhong Jue, honorary director of the Laboratory; leaders from the Science and Research Department, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Automation, and the Light Alloy Research Institute of Central South University, and the core academic team of the Laboratory, totaling over 100 participants, also participated in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Academician Lin Zhongqin, chair of the Academic Committee, while Academician Chai Liyuan, standing vice president of Central South University, delivered a welcome speech.

The experts in attendance listened to the work report and academic presentation delivered by Professor Duan Jian, director of the Laboratory, as well as academic reports presented by Associate Professor Liu Chunhui and Professor Luo Qiwu. A thorough discussion was conducted regarding the Laboratory’s work progress for the year 2024. The participants reviewed the open fund project proposals for the Laboratory in 2024 and selected 20 outstanding projects for approval.

Experts Listen to the Reports

The experts unanimously acknowledged the achievements of the Laboratory over the past year, recognizing its focus on addressing major requirements in strategic equipment used in areas such as aerospace and its establishment of a distinctive research feature in the precise manufacturing of components/devices for extreme service environments. The Laboratory has undertaken numerous significant national, provincial, and industry-university-research cooperative projects, achieving substantial progress and remarkable outcomes in the foundational research and technological development across five key areas: synergistic precision manufacturing of extreme-dimension components, ultra-precision manufacturing of macro and microstructures for light-metal optical elements, high-fidelity precision manufacturing of information sensing and transmission devices, multi-source information online detection in precision manufacturing processes, and integrated manufacturing and intelligent control of special equipment. The Laboratory has made significant contributions to the fields of aerospace and national economic development.

The experts present deliberated on the future development of the Laboratory and conveyed their expectations that the Laboratory would continue to explore new principles, methods, processes, and equipment for the precise manufacturing of components/devices designed for extreme service performance, expand its international influence, and contribute even more significantly to the development of the country’s critical equipment.
